What Influences the Cost of Liposuction?

Liposuction procedures result in the removal of fatty pockets just below the skin. While under general anesthesia, a wand is extended under the skin to the areas of excess fat. The end of the wand vibrates at an ultra-high frequency and essentially liquefies any fat cells with which it comes into contact. Once the fat is made into a liquid slurry, it is drawn by means of a vacuum out of the body. Common areas for liposuction are the waist, arms, inner and outer thighs, upper legs and butt. This procedure contours your body and helps you get rid of extra fat that is difficult to remove with diet, exercise and muscle toning.

If you are considering liposuction, one of the first things that you might consider is the cost of the procedure. Since this type of procedure is not covered by health insurance in the United States and in many other countries, knowledge about the various costs that are involved is a key part of your decision. The cost of liposuction procedure depends on various factors but the bulk of the cost is going to be paid to the person who will actually be performing the procedure, i.e. the surgeon. Another cost determining factor is the amount of fat that is to be removed by the surgeon and from which area; the more areas you desire to be treated the higher will be the cost. Specialists also advise to have the liposuction procedure performed as early as possible, i.e. before fat deposition becomes too great. Not only will this approach keep cost of the procedure lower, but will shorten the procedure and recovery time.
The costs of liposuction in countries like the US, UK and Australia begin at about $3,000. Many people are opting to travel overseas for the cosmetic surgery procedures because of lower liposuction costs and the anonymity of getting the procedure done while “on vacation.” When looking for a cosmetic surgeon overseas, do a thorough search of their credentials, number of procedures that they have performed, patient’s testimonials, as well as complication rates.
Trying to minimize cost by skimping on quality is foolish when it comes to liposuction and other cosmetic procedures. Before going for the lower priced liposuction procedure, keep in mind that you don’t have to compromise on the quality. You may find a cheap liposuction offer, but might not be satisfied with the end results that may require revision. While liposuction is a relatively safe procedure, it needs to be performed by trained and skilled providers to minimize the risk of dangerous complications.
