What is ANGIOPLASTY and STENTING?
Sometimes used interchangeably, coronary angioplasty and stenting are actually two separate procedures. This video shows how coronary angioplasty and stenting are performed and how the two procedures differ.
What Does CAD Do?
A physician explains coronary artery disease or CAD in this video. He covers the main type of damage that can occur to the coronary artery, namely atherosclerosis. The video also covers some of the serious consequences of CAD such as myocardial infarction (heart attack) and heart failure.
Cardiology Medical Animation Reel
This animation shows what angioplasty and stent deployment look like if you could see inside of the blood vessels, up close. There is no narration, but the "balloon" being opened is the angioplasty procedure while the "chicken-wire" cylinder is the stent.
3D CGI medical video carpal tunnel syndrome
A narrated video that provides a detailed overview of the anatomy of the arm, wrist, and hand. It also shows how muscles interact with bone to create movement. Once these are explained, carpal tunnel syndrome is described and one way in which carpal tunnel surgery is performed to correct the problem.
How the Heart Works animation video
This video combines animation and real footage of the heart to demonstrate how the atrial, pulmonic, mitral, and tricuspid valves of the heart work. The coordinated opening and closing of these valves is what allows the heart to provide blood flow and pressure in one direction, toward the lungs and body.
Coronary Angiography
This video describes how the circulatory system works, how disease can affect blood vessels (atherosclerosis), and how doctors use angiography to test for coronary artery blockage.
The Pacemaker of the Heart
Tiny electric currents flow through the heart muscle and cause them to contract, squeezing blood throughout the body. This animation shows the electrical system of the heart and how it is driven by a small patch of tissue called the cardiac pacemaker or sinoatrial node.
Glaucoma Surgery 3D Animation O. Findl, MD
This narrated 3D animation shows how a glaucoma surgery is performed, specifically a trabeculectomy. While the video is incredibly detailed and thorough, it does contain anatomical, surgical, and medical terms throughout. Glaucoma is a disease in which too much fluid and, by extension, pressure builds up inside the eye. A trabeculectomy is one type of glaucoma surgery that improves fluid outflow from the eye and reduces intraocular (inside the eye) pressure.
Mitral Valve Repair
This video includes echocardiogram information from a patient showing severe mitral valve prolapse and actual footage during repair of a mitral valve. This view is from inside the heart that has had all of the blood removed and diverted (not shown).
How heart valve replacement surgery is carried out
This narrated 3D animation shows how a valve of the heart would be replaced. Heart valve replacement surgery can be done using artificial valves, heart valves taken from certain animals, or from human cadavers.
How the heart works
This narrated animation shows how blood flows through the various chambers of the heart and the electric system that controls the heart muscle's pumping action.
Percutaneous coronary Intervention stenting
This animation describes percutaneous coronary interventions or PCIs. This procedure actually encompasses a number of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as angioplasty or balloon angioplasty. As the video describes, a catheter is inserted into the blood vessels and maneuvered into placed at the diseased portion of the coronary artery. A small balloon is inflated which opens the blocked artery. In most cases a coronary artery stent is left at the site to hold open the coronary artery.
ANIMATION OF HEART
This 3D animation explains how the heart muscle contracts to pump blood throughout the body. The action of cells at the microscopic level affects the function of the entire cardiovascular system, as the video explains.
What causes a heart attack?
This narrated animation shows what happens in a myocardial infarction or heart attack. It shows how a blockage of a coronary artery causes a heart attack, leads to heart damage, and may lead to arrhythmias (abnormal electrical activity of the heart).
PreOpĀ® Coronary Artery Bypass CABG) Patient Education
Provides an overview of the circulatory system including the blood vessels that supply the heart. When these coronary arteries become blocked, the vessels need to be bypassed with other blood vessels. The animation describes a coronary artery bypass graft surgery or CABG.
About the "mini maze" procedure for Atrial Fibrillation
Atrial fibrillation is disease caused when electrical tissues in the atrium of the heart fire inappropriately and cause ineffective and chaotic heart contraction. This narrated animation shows one surgical treatment for atrial fibrillation called the mini-maze procedure. The mini-maze procedure lesions part of the heart to break the "circuit" of improper electrical firing in the heart.
3D Medical Animation - What is Cancer?
This narrated animation explains how normal cells sometimes change and turn into cancer cells. It touches on some of the causes and the prevalence of cancer and cancer deaths in the population.
What Does a Stroke Do?
The animated video, narrated by a physician, describes the two main types of stroke: ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke. Ischemic strokes are further subdivided into thrombotic strokes and embolic strokes while hemorrhagic strokes are classified into subarachnoid hemorrhage and intracerebral hemorrhage. The location of the stroke in the brain directly influences the kind and degree of neurological deficit, which is discussed.
How superficial thrombophlebitis develops
Superficial thrombophlebitis is a term used to describe a vein that is inflamed and close to the surface of the skin (superficial). This narrated animation explains superficial thrombophlebitis and how it can cause pain and minor blood clots.
Myocardial Infarction
In addition to showing how a myocardial infarction (heart attack) occurs, this narrated animation also shows how atherosclerosis is caused and how it can affect the coronary arteries.
