Demographics

Breast augmentation surgery is the second most common cosmetic surgical procedure performed in women. In 2007 there were nearly 400,000 breast augmentation procedures performed in the United States. In the United States the majority of women seeking breast augmentation procedures are Caucasian; however, the proportion of women of other races that undergo breast augmentation has been growing each year.
 
A recent national survey of plastic surgeons found that on average, breast augmentation costs 3,500 to 3,800 dollars for surgeon fees and implant materials. Silicone implants are slightly more expensive than saline. On average silicone implants are higher by a factor of approximately 10 percent
