Preparation

For breast lift surgery, the patient usually initiates contact with a plastic surgeon. In the case of reconstruction after trauma or mastectomy, a referral is sometimes made by the cancer surgeon.

The best candidates for a breast lift are patients that have pendulous breasts of sufficient size, breasts that lack firmness, and breasts in which the nipple is obscured the crease of the breast (as the breast turns downward. Significant asymmetry between the breasts may also warrant breast lifting.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding can alter the shape and substance of the breasts. If you are planning to have children after breast lift surgery, you should bring this to the attention of your surgeon. Also, you can expect that the results of the mastopexy will change after one or both of these life events.
