Because the targeted cells are more stimulated as much as ablated, the trabecular meshwork is mostly left intact. This means that selective laser trabeculoplasty can be performed up to twice a year. In argon laser trabeculoplasty (ALT) much of the meshwork is damaged and treatment is limited to twice in a lifetime.
