Med spa memberships and Botox banks: the arithmetic
A membership has a fee and a member’s price per unit, beside the price anyone pays. A prepaid “bank” is a block of units paid for in advance. Both are sums: this page lays them out, with what practices actually print. It says nothing about how many units anyone uses.
A membership
Two yearly costs, and where they cross
Three numbers decide it: the fee, the two prices per unit, and the units used in a year.
Where the fee is charged on top
- Without the membership: units × the price anyone pays.
- With it: units × the member’s price, plus a year of fees.
- They are equal at: a year of fees ÷ (the price anyone pays − the member’s price) units.
No practice below prints both prices and a fee its page says is charged on top, so there is no printed example of this sum yet. Where a page does not say what its fee does, both sums are shown beside it.
Where the fee is banked as credit
- The fees are spent on treatment at the member’s price.
- A year then costs the greater of: a year of fees, or units × the member’s price.
- It costs the same as a year without the membership at: a year of fees ÷ the price anyone pays units. Below that, part of what was paid in is not spent.

A membership may also carry a sign-up fee, a minimum term or a charge for leaving early, and may include things other than injectables. Each is printed with the price it belongs to below; none is in these sums.
